Scout for Android Adds Real-Time Social Meet Up and ETA Sharing Features

Sunnyvale, California — October 1, 2013 — Telenav, Inc. (NASDAQ: TNAV), the leader in personalized navigation, today announced that its free, top-ranked Scout for Android app now gives people the ability to easily coordinate and drive to specific locations or events together. Scout makes it simple to share an address and drive with friends or family. To start, users select one or more people to meet from their contact lists and a destination. Scout will then navigate each person there, while also providing a map on the same screen with real-time location and an ETA for each driver.

"Coordinating location and timing when meeting friends can be challenging and frustrating—especially for people who are busy and on the go all the time," said Matt Dimmick, product manager for Scout for Android. "Our real-time social meet up and ETA sharing features will reduce the hassle of waiting around or having to call or text people to find out where they are."

Scout users can send invitations to meet to anyone with a smartphone. Scout automatically generates a short URL, sent via text to each recipient, as part of the invitation to meet. If the recipient has Scout for Android on their phone, clicking on the link will launch the Scout app. If they do not have the app, Scout will launch HTML5 turn-by-turn, voice-guided navigation to the location directly through a mobile web browser—regardless of what kind of smartphone they have.

"Social features on mobile apps are often limited to people who have the apps on their phone, so there are inherent limitations on how often and when people can use it," said Dimmick. "We believe it's only 'social' if everyone can use it all the time."

Scout also offers social sharing via its OnMyWay® feature that allows people to share their real-time ETA with friends or family any time they launch a navigation session. Users can share their ETA to home, work or any other location—such as the time they will arrive at the restaurant to meet friends or when they will be home for dinner. Recipients can see their real-time ETA and follow their location on a map, eliminating the need for drivers to update others via phone calls or text messages.

With all of the features mentioned above, user location information expires shortly after arrival or after a short period of inactivity. Users can also stop sharing location with friends at any time.

Scout for Android is free on Google Play and is currently ranked #2 in the Travel and Local category, ahead of Google Maps and Waze. Visit www.scout.me/android to watch the video tutorial and learn more.
